Pumpkin Cream Cheese Danish

This Fall flavored danish will NOT last, trust me! It is so incredibly simple to make, that you'll want it for every special Holiday breakfast coming up. Using frozen Puff Pastry takes the tedious time of making your own out of the way so you can focus on the delicious Pumpkin filling. I like to make this with Homemade Roasted Pumpkin puree that I have stocked up in my freezer but canned works perfectly as well. This serves about 4 people using one sheet, but for entertaining a larger gathering, just double or tripe the filling and and divide between more Puff Pastry Sheets. You can also cut the sheets into quarters and make individual Danishes by simply folding two corners in towards the center over the filling. Easy Peasy and a definite crowd pleaser!

Ingredients:

1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry Dough; thawed

1/2 Cup Cream Cheese

1/3 Cup Pumpkin Puree

1/4 Cup Confectionary Sugar

1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

1/8 tsp. Ground Nutmeg

1/8 tsp. Ground Ginger

1/4 tsp. Salt

1 Egg

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

  2. In a standing mixer, combine the Cream Cheese, Pumpkin Puree and spices. Whip on high for about 2-3 minutes until well incorporated and smooth. (It's okay to have a few cream cheese lumps but just so the ingredients are all mixed)

  3. On a pastry slab or lightly floured counter top, roll out the sheet of puff pastry and cut 1" strip on either side of the center fold on a diagonal (as pictured)

  4. Spread the filling mixture into the center and fold over each dough strip from one side to the other in a "braided" pattern.

  5. Transfer the Danish to a sheet pan lined with Parchment Paper.

  6. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the egg wash over the danish. This will give your Puff Pastry a nice sheen once cooked.

  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the Pastry is golden in color and has risen into nice light layers.

  8. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.

  9. Optional (but super delicious!) In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 Cup Confectionary Sugar and 1-2 tbsp. of Whole Milk and 1/2 tsp.Vanilla Extract. Drizzle this glaze on top of the Danish before serving.

  10. Enjoy!
